Here are some of the basic facts about long distance moving that will help you to better prepare for your coming relocation.
Estimating Methods
Most relocation service providers will use a large fifty foot semi trailer for their long distance deliveries.
This means that your shipment will be combined with several others and that the movers will charge according to the percentage of the space your goods will take on the vehicle.
The two most commonly used methods to price a long distance move use weight and volume.
Weight Based Long Distance Moves
In weight based long distance moves, the mover will weigh the truck used for pick up before and after your goods were loaded onto it.
The difference between the two weights will be your actual shipment weight. The charges will be done according to a predetermined rate per pound.
Volume Based Long Distance Moves
In volume based long distance moves, the charges are determined according to the amount of space that your goods will take on the truck.
The moving company will provide you with a predetermined rate per cubic foot that will depend on the destination location.
Once the goods are loaded onto the moving truck, the mover will calculate your actual volume and moving costs.
Packing Charges for Long Distance Moving
Packing boxes and breakables are normally not included in the long distance moving price. Make sure you check packing rates and possibilities with your moving service provider in advance.
