Every simple Google search will give you results for dozens, sometimes hundreds of moving companies. Many of those companies advertise nationwide and do not have a local headquarters in New Jersey. Many others are brokers who sub-contract your long distance move to actual movers, of which you have no information.
The best way to go is to select a local company for your long distance move. Such a company will be able to perform your long distance pick up at a set, guaranteed time, provide storage services in its local storage facility and send more movers and assistance at a moments notice.
Making Sure you are dealing with a Local New Jersey Company
The first thing you should do in order to make sure you are dealing with an actual, local New Jersey company is to ask for the physical address. Make sure the address you receive is not a post office box, or a self-storage facility. A respectable, local company will allow you to visit its local headquarters, offices and storage facility. Once you have established the fact that you are dealing with an actual local company, check its reputation by visiting the Better Business Bureau website, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website and asking for references.
