Checking the Moving Company Reputation
As mentioned, internet searches for movers will give you dozens, sometimes even hundreds of results. All the moving service providers will claim to be reputable, inexpensive and completely reliable. Are they all really reputable, inexpensive and reliable? Of course not. It falls under your responsibility to sort the good from the bad by doing some careful research and validating all the information you receive.
Checking our Licensing Information
The first thing to do is to check that the company is actually licensed and registered. Anyone could open a website and advertise on the internet.
Start your search on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s website. Don’t hesitate to ask potential movers for their license number. Any mover that hesitates providing licensing information should definitely not be used.
If you find out a company is not properly registered, don’t use it, no matter how cheap a price it offers you. Such moving companies normally provide extremely low estimates in order to lure customers, then inflate the price once the goods are loaded onto the truck.
One thing you need to understand is that no moving company will openly admit to being unlicensed or nonreputable. Sometimes, the worse movers employ the most convincing sales representatives. So it falls under your responsibility to check and double check all the information you’re receiving, no matter how tempting or convincing.
