If you’re finished decluttering and sorting out your garage in preparation for your coming move, then this second part of the Alpha Moving Guide for Packing your Garage is just for you. In this part, we’ll take a closer look at how to handle your tools and the heavier items in your garage, such as gas-powered tools, lawn mowers and workbenches.

Packing your Tools

Let’s start with the smaller, regular tools one can find in almost any garage: hammers, pliers, screwdrivers etc. Such tools should be properly packed in cardboard boxes. Be sure not to pack boxes that are too large and heavy to safely handle. You tape sharp tools. All blades for tools such as chisels and saws must be protected to avoid injury. You can use old towers and socks to place such items in. Mark boxes with such items, so you’ll know to be extra careful when unpacking them.

Here is the second part of the Alpha Moving and Storage guide for decluttering, organizing and packing your garage.

Packing the Larger Items

The first think you should do is consider whether or not it would really be worth your while to move large and heavy items, such as workbenches and gas-powered tools. If you are moving your workbench, check if the bench can be disassembled to make the process of moving it easier.

Now let’s move on to gas-powered tools and lawn mowers. All motorized tools should be emptied of fuel before moving. You should know that virtually all moving companies do not allow the transportation of gasoline and hazardous materials. You can visit a local recycling center or automotive shop in order to dispose of old gas.

Take another look at all the odd-shaped heavy pieces in your garage. Such items take a lot of space on the truck. Many times, the movers can’t place boxes or other items on or directly around them. Make sure that such items are worth the price of moving. More than often, it would be better to simply replace them at the destination.
