Double Checking the Moving Company’s Address
A lot of moving companies use a sort of ‘trick’ in order to appear local. They simply buy a P.O box and then provide it as the local address of their business. This is especially being used by services such brokers who do not have actual facilities.
Another famous trick is providing a self-storage address. When you receive an address, double check that it doesn’t house a self storage facility in which the company has simply bought some storage space and not an actual facility.
Paying your Moving Company a Visit
Of course, the possible way to go about verifying your mover’s location is paying it an actual visit. A genuine mover shouldn’t have any problem allowing its customers to visit their offices and sign the contract on location. Ask to see the trucks and equipment that the mover uses to make sure everything is on the up and up. If you are going into storage, ask to see the moving company’s storage facility and the location where your goods will be stored.
If the company is avoiding you or gives you various excuses regarding its location, it’s probably a good sign you should move on and seek another service provider.
