Music and Toys
If you have a large music collection, perhaps moving will be a good time to join the digital revolution. A large collection of DVDs and CDs can add up to dozens and dozens of bulky and heavy boxes. Naturally, this can add quite a lot to the price of the move. Holding a garage sale to get rid of old CDs and DVDs might be a good idea. The same thing it true when it comes to toys.
Don’t just stack all of your children’s toys into boxes. If you start sorting out, there’s a good chance you’ll discover they have ‘grown out’ of most of their toys. Donating or selling some of your children’s toys is an excellent way to reduce your moving weight and volume.
Eating Away your Moving Weight and Volume
When it comes to food, it’s probably not a good idea to move it. Boxes of canned food will be heavy and probably not worth moving and frozen food cannot be moved. The best way to go is to plan your grocery shopping in the weeks before the move in a way that will allow you to consume all that canned food that always lies hidden in the drawers and cabinets.
You can create a sort of menu for the two-three weeks before the move to help you get rid of all that extra food. If you’re still left with some foodstuffs, you can always donate them in the days prior to your moving date.
