The best way to go is to use unbiased sources such as the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Department of Transportation. The recommendation is to take off companies that have a lot of complaints and violations from your list of moving companies.
Make sure that the proper license numbers appear on the estimate and contract that the moving company is offering you.

When it comes to moving, your best bet is always to use a local company that can send a representative to your house and provide you with an on-site written estimate. Make sure that the company has facilities and resources in your area and that it has the necessary trucks and equipment to perform the type of move you require. It may also be a good idea to ask for local references and pay a visit to the company’s headquarters in your area.
