In this part we take a look at the information you will need to provide potential movers in order to get prices and information.
Focusing your Moving Needs
It is recommended that you be able to answer the following questions before actually contacting your movers:
When will you be moving?
There is a difference between a last minute move a week from today, a move during the summer, the busiest moving season, and a move during the holiday season or in midwinter. Unless you have a pretty clear idea about when you will be moving, movers will find it difficult to provide you with accurate information. During the busy summer months, it is recommended to reserve a mover at least a month in advance.
What is your moving destination?
If you want to move long distance, but are still unsure whether you’ll be moving to Iowa, California or New York, there’s no real point in calling moving companies. The rates for each long distance move are different, depending on distance and demand, so there’s no real point in asking for rates if you’re still unsure where you’ll be going to.
Will you require packing and storage?
Additional services such as packing and storage for local moves will add to the price of the move. Getting back to the inventory lists, remember to tell the movers about fragile items and items that need special handling so they’ll be able to take that into consideration when preparing your estimate. Generally speaking, the more focused you are about your destination and the moving services you will require, the better and more accurate prices and information you receive.
