This is the third part of the Alpha Moving and Storage ‘Countdown Guide to Moving.’ Two weeks before your moving date you should already have most of the organizational preparations behind you. Now’s the time to start taking care of the more practical aspects of your coming move.
Working on a Final Inventory
By now, you should have a pretty clear idea about which items you will need to leave behind or sell. Go over your inventory lists one last time. Take off items you’ve gotten rid of and add new items you’ve bought. Be sure to update your moving and relocation service provider with your final inventory list. Inventory fluctuations will almost always influence the price of your move, especially if it is a long distance move, so inventory precision and updates are crucial.
Some Final Preparations
- If you are moving long distance and are shipping a vehicle, you should already have an auto transport service booked.
- Make all the necessary arrangements for flying or driving to your new destination.
- Discuss both practical and emotional aspects of the coming relocation with your children. Preparation is essential in order to make the process of relocation easier for them.
- Make arrangements for servicing your appliances, both at the origin point and your new home.
- Be sure to dispose all flammable items, such as aerosol cans, gasoline, cleaning fluids, bleach and so on.
- Alert all regular services about your upcoming move. You don’t want the gardener or the newspaper delivery guy showing up the day after you’ve moved.
- If you have outdoor furniture, now’s the time to decide whether you are going to take them with you or leave them behind. Most outdoor furniture is bulky and will take a lot of space on the truck. Sometimes it’s most cost effective to simply purchase new ones at the destination.
